Cowboys Sign WR Martavis Bryant to Practice Squad

Ending a Five-Year Hiatus

FRISCO, Texas (AP) - The Dallas Cowboys have signed wide receiver Martavis Bryant to their practice squad on Wednesday, ending a five-year hiatus from the NFL.

Bryant, 29, last played in the NFL in 2018 for the Oakland Raiders. He was suspended indefinitely in 2019 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He was reinstated by the NFL earlier this year.

The Cowboys are hopeful that Bryant can provide a boost to their wide receiver corps, which has been depleted by injuries. Amari Cooper is currently on injured reserve with a foot injury, and CeeDee Lamb is dealing with a concussion. Bryant has a history of being a productive receiver, catching 26 touchdowns in his first four seasons in the NFL.

A Second Chance

Bryant's signing is a testament to the Cowboys' willingness to give players a second chance. The team has a history of signing players who have had off-field issues, including Ezekiel Elliott and Greg Hardy. Bryant is hoping to make the most of this opportunity and prove that he can still be a valuable contributor to an NFL team.

The Cowboys will have 21 days to decide whether to promote Bryant to the active roster. If he is not promoted, he will remain on the practice squad for the rest of the season.
