Steve Gleason: A Former NFL Player Who has not been Defeated by ALS

Steve Gleason is a former professional football player who played as a safety with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Gleason was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2011, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, and has limited his mobility and speech.

Despite his diagnosis, Gleason has remained active in advocating for ALS awareness and research, and has raised millions of dollars for the cause. In 2014, he was awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards.

Gleason is also the subject of the 2016 documentary film Gleason, which chronicles his life and his battle with ALS.
